Michael Lee is an exciting young American composer residing in Manhattan, New York and studying composition at the Juilliard School under Dr. Samuel Adler. Michael has written for a large range of concert music from duos to String Quartets to a Piano Concerto and full orchestral pieces.
Michael works hard to be an active composer along with his studies. His passion is “to prolong the growth of 21st century American classical music to the audience of musicians and music lovers alike.” He is the recipient of the $20,000 Cartwright scholarship, the Irene Diamond Graduate fellowship, the Hannah Komanoff scholarship in composition and the George Gershwin memorial scholarship from the Juilliard School and the recipient of the Bernard Rogers Memorial prize and Howard Hanson Award/Scholarship from the Eastman School of Music.
Most recently, Michael’s large orchestral work, ‘Contrasting Visions’ written in November 2011, is the recipient of the $2,500 Arthur Friedman Award for Best Orchestral piece and will be premiered by the Juilliard Orchestra under Maestro Jeffery Milarsky February 27th, 2012.
